SENIOR DEVELOPER
We know programming is a lonely business - which is why you love it. You get to build a virtual world, meticulously hand-crafted and built from the ground up, line by DRY line with your own fingers. With Joe Satriani's melodic orchestrations blasting from your headphones, you craft web apps from schema to beta.
The person we are looking for is a craftsman. Capistrano, GitHub, Rails and Ruby are your tools of choice. You know RSpec comes from BDD, not Ali G. You get all giddy like a school girl when you hear the words "Rails 3.0" and your dream travel destination is Las Vegas in May (RailsConf!). For you, the DRY-er, the better.
Our apps are built with Ruby on Rails - so you are someone with at least 2 years' worth of experience developing web applications, preferably with the aforementioned framework. You may currently be a PHP or Java developer, but you shall be a convert soon enough. Your tasks will involve the verbs code, administer, troubleshoot, debug and launch, along with the nouns VPS, gems, backtrace, logs, model, schema, staging and production.
You intimately know Ubuntu, MySQL, Apache, Mongrel, Passenger, JSON and REST, your feed reader subscribes to Read/Write Web, Ars Technica and Ruby Inside, and you think wycats, technoweenie and the venerable dhh are da bomb.
DESIGNER
People see a beautiful user interface, you see HTML, CSS, wireframes, prototypes, and the production process. You have 1-3 years' experience designing web sites and web-based application user interfaces. You know all the keyboard shortcuts for Photoshop, Illustrator and/or Freehand, and you have the ability to quickly turn an image into a working prototype using HTML and CSS.
You have an understanding of web usability and standards (read: you do not flinch when making your views cross-browser compatible). You keep up to date with emerging frontend technologies like JQuery and can not resist the urge to try the latest and greatest from the Filament Group. And you know who the Filament Group is.
Aside from designing eye candy, you are no slouch when it comes to the printed word. You can be clear and articulate, yet at the same time be concise and direct to the point. HAML, SASS, Compass, JQuery, liquid, balsamiq, 37signals and zeldman are familiar to you because you actually Google these in your free time.
